I worked in software consulting for 8 years. Something felt off. I enjoyed helping others and making their lives easier, but I realized I wasn't making anything; there was nothing to actually show people for all the time and hard work I was putting in.
I also wanted to further express myself. As someone who is out and proud in the workplace, I helped establish our company's first DE&I committee and brought a bunch of software engineers into a real and safe up-to-date workplace.
It wasn't enough. I found the courage to leave a career I was forging for myself and started all over by going to portfolio school. With my unique perspective, I'm on the precipice of making work that is memorable, relevant, and fun for all to experience.
I'm going to do it.
